SS26 Woman Collection - Isla Bonita: Through the Eyes of Cristian Pena

For the launch of our new women’s collection, Maison Mangostan collaborated with photographer and creative Cristian Pena (@pena_cristian) to develop a campaign that blends photography with hand-drawn intervention.

Through painted scenes, marker strokes, handwritten elements, and playful illustrations, Cristian transformed each image into a mixed world where the real and the imagined coexist naturally.

The concept was built around placing the model inside illustrated environments — drawn entirely by hand — creating compositions that feel spontaneous, artistic, and slightly surreal. Rather than using digital effects, the process remained tactile and intuitive, allowing every artwork to preserve the feeling of something physically created.

During our conversation, Cristian explained that the collection itself became the starting point for the visual universe:

“The clothes already had so much personality and color. The drawings came afterwards, almost as a reaction to them.”

Each illustrated scene was designed to interact directly with the garments and the poses of the model, turning the images into playful compositions without taking attention away from the collection itself. Fish, handwritten notes, abstract shapes, textures, and graphic details become part of the same visual language.

Another aspect Cristian highlighted was the freedom behind the process:

“I didn’t want it to feel too perfect or overthought. The idea was to keep the energy of something made by hand.”

That handmade feeling is what gives the campaign its unique character. The contrast between the real model and the illustrated environments creates a visual tension that feels expressive, modern, and full of movement.
